2007 subaru legacy 2.5i Engine Noise

Hello,

                    My 2007 subaru legacy 2.5i (non gt model) has a noise in the motor when i get to like 5000 RPMS. If i take off from a stop light and floor it the tranny will obviously shift higher and it has a sort of ticking. or knocking noise. the car has 198,000 miles, could it be the lifters or what?

 
Because redline isn't until 6.5k!!!

Is it a ticking noise or a knocking noise?

It's hard to diag. this stuff online, you might be best off having someone on here who knows that engine listen to it.

 
Unless you can record a video of it or find a youtube video of a similar sound, there isn't much we can do as it doesn't sound like a common noise (Oh yeah that's xyz it happens all the time, etc)

 
I'd say dropped valve guide but I'd think you would hear it all the time. How bout don't hammer on something with that many miles if it sounds funny
