title says it all. looking for forester struts for my 97 impreza battle wagon project. I've heard 08 forester struts work good but need a bit of modification to fit the rear.

98-08 will work with either drilling to fit the rear top hats, or using your stock tophats.98-02 have a lower rear spring perch so they won't clear as big of a tire, and the 03-08 have a higher rear spring perch.

You only would have to drill one hole for each rear strut to get them to fit the front are direct bolt in

yes I've been doing some research. seams like 03-08 are a little higher and can fit larger tires due to the longer spring and bigger distance to spring pirch, XT stuff is a bit stiffer then base models. as for the the rear mounting modifications, ill be slotting all 3 holes so i can keep the the tophat centered. i also need to either find 97-99 outback trailing arms and brackets as well as swaybar brackets or build spacers to maintain the correct geometry in the rear. as well as possibley some different camber kits and end links.

any other suggestions and or ideas would be appreciated.

The do fit bigger tires due to the higher spring perch, but the springs aren't as stiff as the 98-02 Forester rear springs. If you use those on the 03-08 struts, you'll gain a little more in the back. Not sure about the xt models being stiffer. But I'm sure the 03-08 struts have better valving in general. And yes, with the GC style chassis, you'll want the trailing arm brackets. The trailing arms themselves are the same. And using a rear sway with this setup depends on what you intend to use the car for. Higher speed stuff, you may want it. If you intend to offroad it, leave it off. Unless you upgrade it, you won't notice the difference anyway.

ok so just the brackets to fix the geometry. do you know anyone who has a set on the site? the cars going to be my adventure rig. ill use it when i want to go out fishing or camping on back roads or get down tight roads. it will see some tar and some speed but mostly dirt trails, rocks and mud. the dilemma I'm in is that i won't it to have good articulation but still be safe to drive to the places.

I have a 2" lift on my forester. No rear sway. It's mostly driven everyday to work and back and I can't tell the difference without a rear swaybar. And the forester is more top heavy than an Impreza. Like I said, unless you put a bigger one on, you won't notice a difference without the stock one being there.
