yes auto trans is basically 2 sets of turbine blades, one set connected to crankshaft spins, heats up the fluid, it gets more viscous and xfers drive from one turbine to the other which runs the driveshafts. if low on fluide, they just spin more and xfer less energy...part of the loss comes in...
