60% over your quoted price is whacked. My motor AND turbo AND clutch through crossroads was around $3400. I'd say if it's got a 30 day warranty then take it right back and tell him you want it fixed. Sorry it was so much to get her back, but what's done is done.

If the mechanic isn't a subaru guy it might help to explain to your parents that he doesn't necessarily know best. these cars seem to be a bit particular in my experience. I wouldn't trust my cousin to build me a Boxer motor, yet he builds 383 stroker motors that produce very high horsepower...
