default_biggrin.png

for all we know it might of bin some dude in his 35 or 40s that loves to AX and Drag and upgraded from sti to like an m3 or something

Not to defend the asking price which does seem high, or Stanley Subaru, but the reason they may have listed it at $28.5K and are possibly not very willing to come down is that (unless they were bluffing when they told me) they already had an out-of-state buyer lined up, one who really wanted that particular limited run STI, and presumably was willing to pay a good price for it.

In my original post I said:

"Stanley will only be keeping it for a week or so in case some one local wants it, if not they will sell it to someone out of state they have lined up"

The out-of-state person may have agreed to buy it for say $27K, but delivery expenses would be involved. Stanley could go a week or two with a showy car on their lot, see if they can get a little more locally than the out-of-state price, but not feel pressured to come down much on price. It's hard to get something at a great price if there's a single person out there who knows about the item, wants it badly and has the money to buy it.

The rarity of the car is what drives the book value. We just got $20k for a 2006 WRX Limited w/42k. It wasn't an STi
Like PT Barnum said,

"There's a sucker born, every minute."

A "Limited", a "rarity"... Very funny!

no matter how 'limited' or special, the car will only sell for what somebody is willing to pay for it

sellers always start high, while patient & prepared buyers usually end up paying a good bit lower

what's a 'realistic' price really depends on who is selling (dealer can demand and get higher price due to warranty and prep of car) and who is buying (ppl willing to chance a private sale of a high-end car like an STI should darn well expect lower prices!)

this particular STI has a known history of an adult owner who didn't beat on the car (much, anyway
default_eek.gif
) w/low miles and known service history and is for sale at the originating dealer--this is a best-case scenario. good luck finding that with a private sale car!

^^ I wouldn't really consider an 07 with 36k miles low miles... still a bit above average.
With that kind of mileage its been driven in the winter and ...

So that being said who wants an rust old sti... lol.

And since when is and Sti a high end car? Its not like it comes with an espresso machine or a starbucks gold card!

I have dealt with collectible cars my entire life. I have spent my adult life appraising cars, so I might have a clue. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but ultimately the value is set by the market.

Stanley Subie is a class act. they know how to sell cars and sell them well. if this doesn't sell out of state someone will buy this locally for sure.

when i bought my WRX a few years ago from Stanley, it was a high mileage WRX (139k when i bought it in 07) and they still gave me a dealer warranty on it because there were so confident in the car they were selling me.

207k on it now and its never had a no start issue or a CEL. and i have ragged the hell out of that car as some of you know.

36k for 2 year old car is nothing, i put 60k on mine in 2 years. which is why i never buy new cars. i would kill a warranty in 3 years.

dealers generally finance used cars by the month, so likely it will sit in the showroom with it's full-boat asking price until about a week before the bill to dlr comes due, and then for some strange reason price becomes more flexible and it'll sell right away
default_eek.gif

and one note to car shoppers...due to the strangeness of auto mfrs 'model year' designations, an 07 is NOT a 2-year-old car, it's 3 yrs old.

by the end of 07, it's 1 year old, end 08 it's 2 yrs old, end 09 it's 3 yrs old, etc. and pls note there are already 2010 cars in the pipeline

since when is an STI a high end car? well when Pat gets done with one, it's safe to say the poor STI is NO LONGER a high-end vehickle.

"...caution, not safe for road use, this vehickle is for used parts only..."

...And I appreciate that.

Didn't know that, should I have?

My comments are based on this seriously depressed market, and that an '07 STI isn't an AC Cobra or a Chevelle SS.

My meaning is-an '07 STI isn't an antique or even collectible, even a "Limited", which, btw, isn't hard to source, is only special on a Subaru forum.

Nicer cars can be sourced, for less.

Like I said, I'd bet they only gave $22K for it to begin with.

Holly **** its Owen Willson!!!

JK lol...

Still a 35k car is not high end... its the same price as a civic si... Its a Fan boy car...

Hell maybe if it had a bigger wing it could be highend... wait ???
default_tongue.png
they tried that and it was still not a highend car...

When I think of high end I think Miata... I mean atleast 60k+ Ben Bmw Audi(the r8 and s cars) Porsche(not the boxter) Kia, Deawoohahoo.

Def dont think Sti,g35, 325, civic SI, things like that... Although they are fun nice cars they aren't gonna make dem hizzos drop der mit. It gona Tak dem Playazskillz cuz you aint de ballenist G...

I apologize if I came off harsh, but being in the business my entire life I have heard it all. As far as STI's, their scarcity in the retail market will make them a collectible at some point.

to throw my 2 cents in here. i knew about the sti before i was interested in imports, let alone subarus. the sti is in a class above normal import tuner cars. this makes it at the high end of its class. thus, higher end car.

the sti i feel in 15 years will be one of those cars that people lust for, especially in mint condition. (i don't want to say supra, but in that direction)

therefore, a limited sti, which is about as rare and collectible as the sti gets in the states, would be like hitting the lotto.

you CAN'T compare the sti to a cobra or something like that yet because the history isn't there, and there isn't the multi-generational demand that classic muscle cars have

Whatever performance car you have now or plan to get in the near future you better hold on to. The CAFE for 2020 was just rasied to 42 mpg. That`s not that far off. down the road just about any performance car will become a collectable because they will not be making them anymore if the govnerment gets it way.
