can anyone compare a well setup civic to a well setup 97ish impreza?

I've got an EG civic with ground controls, konis, GSR sways, GSR brakes, front camber kit and wheels+tires (15 inch sticky summer tread) that weighs in around 2250 lbs.

I know how it handles. It's very agile, quick to respond, grip at all body roll angles (except maybe 90 degrees or higher

), very balanced with significant snap oversteer on hard off-throttle snaps.

Can anyone describe the difference I will feel if I build a 97ish four door impreza with a comparable suspension setup?

stay with the civic. lighter. the brighton was the lightest subi ever made. it still weighs like 2700 lbs. your car has leaps and bounds beyond it. Not unless you feel like doing some performance mods to make up for the power/weight ratio to come even with your civic I wouldn't do it.

depends on what you want it for. You won't be able to max out the Civic on the street and you won't be able to with the Impreza either if built that way. The Impreza will be a better DD imo. plus it will be plenty of fun in the winter too where the Civic probably shouldn't be taken out in the snow at all.

Part of the reason for wanting to get the subaru is for when winter rolls by...

The civic is a boat load of fun, but like some have mentioned already, I drive it around at 10% potential all the time.

Forgive my amateur questions, I've never even bothered to look at soobies until recently.

There are a lot of impreza wagons for sale on craigslist for mad cheap right now... will I notice a huge difference in performance over a 4 door?

I've been reading a 97 impreza service manual in my down time, and it seems that they all come with viscious limited slips (front, rear, center). Is this true? Are there any OEM differential swaps that make a significant difference?

Is there a lot of work that needs to be done to switch from the older impreza front end to the sharper newer gc8 front?

Lastly, what needs to be done to an earlier impreza to improve drivetrain strength? I know I can't sidestep the clutch into 2nd like I can in the civic, so aside from driver stupidity and picking the right clutch/pressure plate...

Maybe I should start a new thread.. haha

buy lobstah's brighton for dirt cheap money. do either a 22t or 2.0t swap, rs front end conversion and coilovers, and you'll have a civic eater:D

where do guys on here find their swaps? There doesn't seem to be much on the classifieds here in terms of engine swaps.

There's a few companies in NE that you can get JDM imported swaps from. USDM EJ20 is best found at salvage yards/auctions (though chances are slim) or RS25/nabisco, etc.

somebody found a 22t legacy at a junkyard not too long ago. you can check ebay or nasioc if you don't mind traveling. or just check local junkyards for wrecked wrx's with good engine tranny combo

nasioc is the best option. theres a running ej22t longblock on newenglandsubarus.com at the moment. 800.

problem is most swaps include using different heads. i'm in the middle of gathering parts for a similar swap.

!!!!!!!! $9000 for a swap? Fudge me sideways!

I'd rather get an SVX, part it out, rebuild the motor and go H6 NA on a 5mt.

lol, but you would have a car that would be Balls Tango. I am telling you if you got a Brighton with it gutted and an sti swap you would have a monster. Even I wouldn't be able to catch you. That is with you having stock sti parts and me with lots of mods. You would have a winter car that would be so much F'in fun. Would serve well as a DD but be a sleeper and a half. If I saw a Brighton and it wanted to race me then I lost to it I think I would go sink into a hole and cry myself to sleep.

Lets see Brighton $3k

the motor swap $9k parts and somewhere around $4k at the most for labor not unless you do it yourself.

you are lookin at about $15-$16k and would have a bada@@ rig.

I'm talking about putting the H6 in the brighton. There's a guy named Bobthefabricator who has achieved 220 whp in an eg33 gc8 with intake, custom headers, exhaust, and dyno tune... that sounds like fun to me.

no way chris. buy an sti for 15k. at the end of the day it's still worth the money and will always start. too many mega projects have either fallen by the wayside or done half assed due to ridiculous grandeur plans of making a track monster out of a daily driver.

even if that car was faster, i'd prefer having your car in stock form.
