car for a friend

had a friend call me today and said he has a $1,000. and needs a subaru asap .....any ideas?
no such animal, and we all know it. a "$1000 Subaru" has a way of soon becoming a $1500 then $1800 then $2000......

if the budget is really $1000, he probably ought to start with a $500 car and have a lil reserve.

even then, he needs to realize that a car in that price range will likely last maybe a year before it needs either major repair or total replacement. (heh, in that price range those two situations are basically the same thing)

for $1000, he needs to be looking at simple basic cars like a Hyundai Accent. he can get a lot more Accent for $1000 than Impreza for $1000.

Accent w/few needs probly avail cheaper: http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/2299058561.html

Well he should be able to find a car for $800 in better condition then the red GC. I paid $800 for mine and it has needed maybe $400 in parts over 2 years. Also the red GC was here at MMA for a while. New rockers shouldn't be hard to find.

Spent 400 on mine, and put less than 600 into it. It's doable to get a nice subaru for sub-1000. It just takes some work and getting greasy.

Most sub-1000 subarus are toilets. I have 2. Both have noisy trannies, both will get you there, both have some tender fenders, neither are for sale. Issues issues issues.

I let friends get their own toilets. I have no idea what they are willing to overlook. Its best to let them decide for themselves.

Lobstah has a really nice fozzy for sale. 1500.

More than you're looking to spend, I know. But it's a nice car, wicked deal.

If you spend 1000 on a soob you'll be putting more than 500 into repairs, the fozz is ready to go.

yea that fozzy is sweet but still to much... plus the "$500." for repairs is a lot less for me... I have a stockpile of parts laying around./
