** SOLD **
Off to a good home!
I posted this over at NASIOC but a friend advised me to post here too.
For Sale (in Watertown, MA): Green 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Wagon 5-door
Asking $3000 obo
Feel free to ask any questions.
Selling because my wife can't stand the hardness of the clutch and the transmission noise
I do drive this car on a regular basis.
Notes
- Transmission has worn input shaft bearing and slightly worn synchromesh gears. (noisy but works fine)
- After a few tries, it finally passed emissions here in MA. It had to be driven for a while until 2 of the tests had passed. A CEL will come back on after 10-14 days, after accumulating sufficient cylinder misfire and/or catalytic converter efficiency codes.
- Fender rust, bad Subaru paint on the hood and fenders
Engine, and electronics
* 1991-1993 2.2L Legacy Turbo shortblock. Forged crank & connecting rods, piston oil squirters for maximum cooling, fully closed deck to eliminate deck walk.
* 1997 Impreza SOHC single-port heads, o-ringed by Function First Motorsports to eliminate potential to blow head gaskets. Non-interference design to avoid bent valves if the timing belt breaks.
* 2000 Impreza 2.5RS DOHC all-metal head gaskets. Net 8.5:1 compression ratio.
* Garrett/Turbonetics T3/T04E turbo with T04E turbine & T3 compressor, oil-cooled. Turbo oil line feed from engine block. Oil return to oil pan by FFMSD.
* Tial 35mm external wastegate with 3.5psi spring installed. A 5.5psi spring will also be included. The 3.5 spring helps to give the widest adjustability when used with an electronic boost controller - right now set up to a reliable 5psi.
* Spearco Top Mount Intercooler (TMIC).
* Greddy Type S Blow-Off Valve (BOV).
* Bell (Cartech) Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Riser (RRFPR).
* Toyota Supra Turbo 255lph fuel pump.
* APEX'i Super Air-Fuel Controller.
* J&S Safeguard knock sensor with timing retard control and adjustable sensitivity.
* Blitz Street Spec Electronic Boost Controller (EBC) - not connected at this time.
* STI engine and transmission mounts.
* F&N panel air filter. Cold air intake from passenger fender.
* Subaru oil cooler kit from Legacy Outback/Forester Turbo.
Exhaust
* 2.5" custom stainless exhaust with Magnaflow resonator, high-flow catalytic convertor and single-tip muffler. Custom installed by Function First Motorsports to keep original ground clearance.
* Stock exhaust headers tapped with EGT ports for both sides. Can accept certain Autometer EGT probes, but Westach are most cost-effective.
Transmission
* Stock OBS 5-speed manual transmission (3.90 final drive)
* Rear Viscous Limited-Slip Differential from a 1993 Legacy Turbo. 3.90 final drive.
* ACT Street clutch.
* Subaru 2.5L hydraulic clutch conversion, push-type.
* Short-throw shifter.
Suspension and brakes
* Koni Yellow Adjustable Sport shocks with stock OBS springs.
* Stock 19mm front sway bar.
* 20mm rear sway bar
* Rear strut tower brace (not installed at this time)
* Front disc brakes from a 1999 Impreza 2.5RS.
* Rear disc brakes (conversion) from a 1996 Legacy GT (same as 98 2.5 RS)
Other Stuff
* MY00 2.5 RS leather shift boot with red stitching.
* MY00 2.5 RS driver and passenger seats.
* MY00 2.5 RS leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching.
* Autometer Phantom 52mm vacuum/boost gauge.
* Defi Heads-Up Display.
* Crimestopper security system with 2 remotes. ('97 did not have Subaru security system option).
* Rear 12V accessory socket and added rear cargo lamp.
* Full set of 1996-1997 Impreza Service Manuals and Haynes Subaru Legacy 1990-1998 Repair Manual.
* 15" alloy 5-spoke silver wheels from a 1997 Legacy GT, with Nokian WR 195/65R15 tires. Remaining tread good for 1-2 more summers.
* 15" stock steel wheels and covers with Nokian Hakkapellita Q 195/65R15 studless winter tires. Remaining tread good for about 2-3 more winters
Here are some Q&A that were answered over at NASIOC:
Q: Is it a enuine Turbonetics turbo?
A: Yes. It is a genuine Turbonetics (Garrett T3/T04E 46 trim) turbo, not a Japanese IHI or Mitsubishi. That's why it's oil cooled.

http://www.turbocharged.com/catalog/comp_wheels.html
Q: Is the shortblock stock?
A: The shortblock is completely stock from a Legacy Turbo 2.2L. Nothing has been touched from the Subaru parts bin.
Q: Do you drive the car on a regular basis?
A: Yes. I've gotten used to the transmission noise but if you take long trips that could get annoying.
Q: What work does the transmission need.
A: The gear whine is from a worn thrust bearing. In New England, F&S Auto sells the replacement: "Worn Subaru Standard shift aluminum thrust bearing shafts machined & steel sleeved for full thrust bearing travel.Call for prices": http://www.fsautoparts.com/
Another option (but also not verified) is http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/shop/p...&idcategory=97
Q: Do you have dyno runs?
A: Yes. Please see http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/turbo/dyno/dyno.html.
