Speed-Enforcement Countermeasures Thread

YARRR SUBY MONSTER!!
Same here. I did think it was ironic when I got pulled over for a dead tail light( wiring issue not bulb) 50 yrds from my place( after a 12 hr clinical rotation on the psych floor ...Officer: " so where are you going?

Me pointing"there"

Officer: " do you know why I pulled you over?"

Me: "yes, due to the faulty rear tail light that got knocked out a month ago when a deer ran into the side of my car 50 yrds on the other side of where i live."

The officer was very courteous and I had to pay a 70$ for past inspection or some such that was past due by 2 weeks....

but he gave me an out and said if i went to court I would not have to pay it...
I thought you got a month grace period on inspection stickers.

*quoting system isn't working for me*

*chris's post goes here*

I think I remember hearing that they formally ended that informal "grace period" a few years ago.

I don't see why it was ever there to begin with, just makes procrastinators procrastinate more. I just get my inspection done on time and be done with it... If I can get my GL to pass people shouldn't complain about inspection.

^ That's really weird...

Here's some copy-pasta for M3nate to aid in his shopping:

I originally started using the Redline for about 4 months. I then sold it for a V1 (3.872 latest version).
I have had the V1 for 3 months now.

V1 Pros

Mounts nicely on windshield and pretty sleek.

Arrows

Power cable

Light weight

Great range on ALL bands

Cons

Not enough modern functions and customizable options

Windshield mount

False alerts to K band and Ka band (when Ka guard off)

Feels "cheap" on construction

Redline Pros

Windshield suction cup

Very modern design and display

Many customizable options (tone, brightness, sounds, display, battery voltage, etc.)

Built with durable material

Great range on ALL bands

False alert technology

Cons

"Big" to mount on a windshield

False alerts to "POP"

Common positives

Great range on all bands. Both are high end radar detectors.

If I were to do it all over again, which one would I pick??

...........Valentine One.

However, I really miss the Redline. (If I didn't already sell it, I would have kept it and not get the V1).

I do mostly highway long distance driving, and I feel a bit more confident with the Valentine V1.
I think the Redline is made by Escort. Others replied saying that the V1 is "built like a tank." I think stiXXX has one, so you could ask him.

Im buying a valentine 1 in about a week which for many years has been on of the best portable radar detectors. I was using a beltronics 995 which I liked a lot but I gave it to my girlfriend when I was planning to upgrade. After getting a couple tickets without one im ready to buy. I have heard the passport 9500 works well too. You of course have to use them in stride nothing works as well as just keeping a keen eye. I acctually did pretty well for a few months considering the way I drive without one and its kinda nice not hearing it beeping constantly.
Get the 9500 then, because you can cancel out false signals. It works just as good, if not better than the Valentine and I believe costs a bit less too.

This happens to me on my 8500. I just disabled the laser as, like everyone else said, if you get tagged, it's too late anyway. I only use my radar as an AID. Sometimes it goes off before I see them, sometimes it doesn't. It's saved my ass many times but so has my ability to watch for them while driving. It's really a combination thing ... no ONE thing is going to eliminate getting pulled over, they'll just reduce the chances they'll be there without you knowing.

Passport detector

Brake light cut-off switch

Taillight cut-off switch

I have a Passport (8500 I think, the one without GPS) and will never go without one again. Radar detectors do get a lot of K band false signals, but I've only seen County Sherrifs run K band. I run Ka only on the interstate, because there are too many false signals from everything. When I was in college I drove to NH and back every week. Never had a detector then, but had CB. CB will give you way more knowledge of what is out there than radar can. Scanner, radar, CB, and cut-out switches would be a great combination. Goolge "Alex Roy" to check out a dude that has some serious speed enforcement countermeasures.

He now has a super-secret device mounted on his front end. All people know is that its water cooled. One theory is that it makes the car in front of him shake, making the driver want to get over.

Sounds like either the 8500, 8500 x50, or the 9500i (the 9500ix and ci both have GPS). How useful is the CB in Maine? Are there enough other people using it on 295?

All big trucks have CBs. It is illegal for them to use radar detectors. They usually point out cops and speed traps.

I was wondering when someone would mention alex roy. Ive been a fan of his for a long time and someday hope to do something along the same lines as what he is looking to accomplish. His book is definitely interesting. He was one of the reasons I have a love for the M series.

Exactly. I would love to do something like this one day. I have been thinking about this since the first time I saw "Smokey and the Bandit". I know exactly the vehicle I want to use and its not really out of reach, I could have bought one for little more than I paid for the LGT (Not a Subaru, don't trust the reliability of one that's been modified to around 500hp for a 3000 mile beating). I always keep track of exactly how long it takes me on a long trip or leg of a trip, I think of it as practice for the one day I finally do something like this, even if its not until I'm 75. I've driven the LGT to NYC 3 times and have made very good time on legs of it but not an overall extremely high average, but average well above 65mph.
