1980 Subaru Brat SWEET!!!! - $4999 (Thomaston)
3Ea3M73L45I55N95H4d5gb335fa9bda341152.jpg

1980 Subaru Brat in amazing condition relative to most. I bought this
last year and had it transported to Maine from Idaho. When I found it,
it was your classic "little old lady car". Over the course of the past
year I've had a great deal of work done to the car and it is currently
in very good mechanical condition. It has new ball joints, inner and
outer tie rod ends, rear shocks, clutch, pressure plate, throw out
bearing, rear main oil seal, drive shaft U joints, front brake pads,
battery, fan belt, air filter, NKG platinum spark plugs and new wires,
fresh coolant, oil, transmission, rear diff, and brake fluid. The tires
are very good and the exhaust is excellent and I just had it aligned.
The car fires up easily and runs fine. Odometer shows 80,000 miles.
There is no smoke.

The body is not perfect but relative to most Generation 1 Brats it is in
excellent condition, and I've tried to document the few spots that
could use attention. The paint is good from afar, but far from good.
It was subjected to a very hasty re-spray at some point in time and
really needs to be redone in my opinon.

Everything works as it should, all the lights, fans, wipers, 4WD etc.. I
also have the cap and it is in good condition. Although it is
currently not inspected because I have it registered as an antique, I
have no doubt it would pass easily and may end up having it inspected to
make it more appealing to potential buyers if necessary.

The only issues with this car are that the engine leaks oil from several
places and the interior leaks water in the rain. There is also some
damage to the underside of the car in the uni-body frame rails and left A
arm. I would strongly discourage anyone who does not have a place to
keep this car protected from the elements from buying this car. And
although it is good in the snow, if you were to subject it to one winter
driving season in the rust belt you would quickly have a rust bucket on
your hands.

If you have been on the lookout for a nice Gen I Brat then this should
come as a sight for sore eyes. I've done most of the hard work on this
car. Its ready for a new owner to take it to the next level or just
enjoy it as is. I can work with potential buyers from far away
locations, I would be willing to meet you @ the Portland ME airport if
you want to fly in and drive it home. And yes I do have the title too.
I have over 80 images of the car on my photo bucket account, http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/BIkewhorder/library/brat?sort=2&page=1 and I can take more if needed.

I am listing this car because I would like to sell it, but I am not
desperate, so please don't waste our time with lowball offers. The
demand for nice brats far outweighs the supply and I can wait for the
right buyer to step up for this one. Feel free to call, text or email
with questions 5seven o, eight 5 for, for eight 7 fore.

looks like a good candidate for a 2.2 swap. if i had extra cash, id buy it and fix it

I got a 97 legacy gt wagon 2.5.. i have a lot of money invested and dont want to invest anymore. the car has no rust at all, has only seen one winter. ot has 115k on it, but needs head gaskets, drivers side cv axle and some exhaust work. It starts up and runs fine but overheats due to the head gaskets. Also the sticker is still good for another 4 months. im asking 1400 or best offer.. the car books for 5000 in running condition.

Holy price hike I think this is the most anyone has want for it so far

1986 subaru brat. 42,XXX miles. yes that's right. 42k original miles. 4spd manual transmission. dual range 4wd works great. new snow tires as of last fall. all accessories work in cabin, all gauges work great. seats are in pretty rough condition, so there are seat covers on them

the good

42k original, the car literally sat in a garage for most of it's life.

dual range 4wd.

new snow tires

all working interior (gauges,lights) etc.

30-34mpg consistently

jump seats for the back.

lots of spare parts avail.

t-tops!

the bad.

no rear bumper

seats are in rough condition, the vinyl is ripped so i put seat covers on them. seats feel fine while driving.

rusty. underside is quite rusty but the unibody is still strong, floor pans are mostly solid, rear wheel arches are starting to rust.

rust is an issue on this car but it is still structurally very strong and safe.

ebrake needs some adjustment.

this antique car/truck is a blast to drive and a boss in the snow. the motor/tranny is still fresh with only 42k original miles. drives/shifts/starts like a champ. heat works great. it doesn't have power steering (brats didnt have them as a factory option as far as i know). the rear end of this truck is super light, i can pick it off the ground entirely with another mans help. i have the jump seats for the back but theyre not currently installed. car is registered as an antique, no inspection needed!

i'll only consider trades that are strongly in my favor. im really looking for a s13 240sx or a nice camper.

YARRR SUBY MONSTER!!
Yea, if that brat isn't rusty, I'd say somewhat fair price. They're getting rare and valuable.

I am pretty sure the last two people to sell didn't even break the $700 mark

And no one that has had it has done anything for work to improve the issues it was originally sold with
