PPU ammo leaves little chunks of brass in my .380, then again...it could just be the gun. I've been instructed to lightly take a dremel to the inside of the barrel (the thought is that the port is slightly too small so the expanding round gets stuck a little), but I don't trust my hand enough to do it.

Lightly and power tools can be a bad combo. try a very fine 1000 grit abrasive. if you use the dremel. so it take very little off at a time. I a guessing polishing the parts will do the trick.

then try a bit of teflon dry lube on the spot. and wipe off the excess.

I am guesssing part of it is the ammo though.

I have found cheap ammo is not a good Idea if it leads to FTE or other such problems.

I recently saw a vid of a guy shooting a kimber 1911 get a FTE/jam. He then uses a 5"+ blade to try to extract it. It was like watching someone washing a car with a sandy sponge....

where/when?

I have been looking around for one to go scope out for a while. I wasn't finding anything in the area. what is the entry fee?

another possibility is that it it is parts of the metal jacket. When the bullet is loaded into the case it will some times trim a bit of the jacket or part of the rough edge of the case this bit gets in under the bullet and on top of the powder. some times it is stuck around the top edge of the mouth of the case. these bits look like brass "finger nail clippings" If this is what you are seeing that is what it is and messing with your gun will not get rid of it.

just swap ammo of check and clean in between mags. If this gun is for conceeled carry than ditch the ammo. you dont want to frig up your life line with cheap ammo.

Haha, I had gotten the ammo just to put a few hundred rounds through it. I believe further back in the thread is a few posts about the frustration that the gun gave me. I'm still iffy on it, and won't be carrying it till I put a lot more rounds through it...I might never carry it really.

 
Sell it get a browning buckmark .22

use good ammo. and never look back....

if you are just shooting for fun go .22 or 9mm. everything else is $$$$ ( unless you reload)

If I did not use my fire arms for hunting I would have .22,9mm,.223,7.62,12 ga. maybe 30-06 for long range.

 
^ i had a buckmark for a while, but i loved my ruger mark 2 a lot more, and sold the buckmark due to the ergonomics. it was nice to the feel, but everything else just seemed wrong

 
Ty we're having the same problem with our Mosin Nagant. Except the expensive ammo is causing the problem. Have to beat the bolt up to get round to eject. I measured (with digital calipers) the bad stuff and compared it to the good stuff. Found that the rim was bigger on the bad stuff and the steel case was thinner on the the bad stuff. The gun left telltale signs on the expended round. Shiny rim, and scuffs near the neck of the bad stuff. Found a couple videos on YouTube for "polishing the chamber" Yeah, I'm scared to do it. Since the cheap ammo we get is super smooth ejecting I might never "polish" it.

Pedro, Cowboy Single action in Augusta. Nick at work does them all the time and invited me to try it. I've gone and watched twice. Figured I better give it a whirl. He has enough guns to set me up, except we might have to share a revolver. We recently missed a 3-gun (2 classes iron sights or optics) in Waterford 2 weeks ago. I didn't even know about it until last night. It wasn't Cowboy specific. Just a local whatever you brung type thing, pistol, rifle, shot gun.

stainless, I've put 1000+rounds Federal Champion and Wild Cat thru my new 10/22 without any FTE, except a couple when it was first brand new, first mag or two had a couple FTE. Since then its been fine with both boxes. Cleaned and oiled with Hopps

American 7.62 and Russian is often built to a different spec from what I remember reading.

That is why you have to be careful practicing with he cheap Russian ammo and then hunting with the nicer American stuff...

sort of like .223 is different than the NATO spec 5.56 stuff... some rifles can use both some have issues.

Going pheasant hunting Wednesday. Just wondering what you guys use when hunting.

Choke/shell/ shotsize.

I have some fiocchi golden pheasant #4 that I have shot out of a extra full choke with an fair pattern. Is that overkill?

I have a mod choke as well but never use it. my I figure with the full choke I either hit/kill the bird or miss.

any one have any experience with non-toxic loads?
