New from Bridgton

Thanks. I'll keep the thread updated as this process goes on.

If anyone has any other advice/tips/etc from past experiences with this sort of thing I always love to hear about it. Knowledge is power.

use shell rotella t6 5w-40 motor oil and subaru oil filter. It will protect the engine much better than 5w-30. only drawback is that mpg's will go down a little.

I've been running it for over 10000 miles now and runs smooth as butter

Is that a full synthetic? I'm not familiar with it. And how much does an oil change with that oil and that filter cost?

I usually do mobil 1 with a mobil 1 filter so price isn't an issue haha

a gallon of t6 costs 21 dollars at tractor supply and the filter is about 6 i think. So you're looking at about 35 or so

Can you only get the filters at a dealership or online?

And Meyagi can you explain why using 5w-40 is better than 5w-30 for me please? I still don't quite get it. And what makes this shell stuff the best?

Since nobody else has replied yet, the Mobil 1 and most other synthetic 5-30 oils don't hold up to the pressures in the Subaru engines and it breaks down quicker. The shell rotella 5-40 synthetic is made for diesel engines, with much more compression, various forces, etc. many of us, whether na or turbo, have gone to the rotella
