seeing as Baie des Chaleurs is only 2 weeks previous to NEFR (with numerous entries that also typically run Maine but aren't' entered yet), I'd expect a fair number of late entries once Baie teams find out if they've wadded up their rally cars without enough time to re-prep for Maine.

so I was contacted by the volunteer group for NEFR last night via email, and I guess a few routes have been changed as an example no Mexico this year and on concord pond we arnt aloud to walk up the road........

Dear Fellow Volunteer Workers,

It’s time for an update regarding the running of The 2012 New England Forest Rally. I am happy to report that we will have some really nice changes to our event for this year. About a month ago we were notified that our beloved Fish Pond Rd and the Magalloway Complex as we have come to call it was not going to be available for this year. It was a very late decision made by Seven Islands and one they did not have a choice in making as the owner family that has so generously allowed us to use their roads was making a major inspection following our event. The roads have to be in perfect condition for their tour. They have owned this land for over 150 years and we have used it for more than 20. We certainly understand and respect their needs. The South Arm and Icicle Brook roads are not affected by the tour and we are free to use them as before.

Our friends at Seven Islands went so far as to help us contact the other land management companies that hold the reins so to speak on the other roads we have used in the past. No the Parmachenee area is still out of bounds unfortunately but we have a new area that will be used thanks to Wagner and Plum Creek. Alex and I have the new Route Book almost done now with the all new Saturday section.

So what does that mean to you and the many wonderful volunteers that attend our event? Our Friday will be essentially the same roads with the only big change being the running of Concord Pond earlier in the day so as to work more effectively in a safety and local use way. The town requested the earlier change as well as Rally America having us work to make the insurers of our event a bit more relaxed.

Saturday is another story altogether and it will take place in an all new area for NEFR. It is adjacent to the sweet little town of Errol, NH. The roads are smooth and of a much different consistency, smoother and not rocky, than the Fish Pond and Middle Damn Roads. There are some very fast sections but also some really nice smooth twistier bits and it will be a challenge to everyone as they have never had stages used on them. Service on Saturday will continue to be at the JML Field next to their truck yard so everyone will be together. We expect the route to return us back to the “Rally Village” at Sunday River early enough for everyone to enjoy the evening’s festivities as well.

Alex and I will endeavor to get you the information you need to allow you all to plan your needs in regards to worker assignments as quickly as possible. The directions into this area are fairly easy and we don’t expect you to have any difficulties in getting to your assigned locations. We do not have any turnaround stages on Saturday and our expectation is that stages can run concurrently which will be much more efficient.

A very important element to this year will be our hope that with really good stewardship of the roads by all of us we may be on the cusp of opening up an opportunity to use these kind land management company’s roads in the future. They stepped up this year so as to let NEFR continue into its 21st year and we can’t express our thanks enough for their generosity and kindness. It is up to us to make sure there decision is one that they are happy they made. Please, please conduct yourselves appropriately and make sure those that spectate or compete do so as well. Enough for the detailed explanation. Thanks!

We are also announcing a Worker Thank You Raffle. Mark Kerrigan is heading up this program to create a nice package of giveaways that will be raffled off during the Saturday slopeside awards ceremony. We hope to have some really nice things of real value and Mark will welcome any additional items or ideas in this area.

You aren't actually allowed to walk up stage roads in general. Unless you are at a designated spectator area or a marshal of some sort you aren't allowed to just hang on the side of the road.

I spoke with mark at STPR about the road changes and this should be a very good thing for the event. The roads are different than anything we have run in my tenure with NEPR. The change to Concord pond scheduling is a needed one period.

Actually, since Concord Pond is a public road, you just go in before it closes and find a secure, safe area to park and walk wherever you want. Even the one year I rode the bus in, they still allowed you to go wherever you wanted. The Saturday stages are much more controlled since they are on private roads that are normally closed to the public. In my opinion, Spectating rally is ALL ABOUT just hanging out on the side of the road. The problems with Concord Pond arose from running it at 7pm, after everyone had had hours to hang out and drink. It was all the drunken yahoos doing doughnuts on their ATV's, driving thier bro-trucks onto other peoples property, crossing the road during the stage, and in general causing chaos and damage that was the problem. If everyone there simply hung out on the side of the road and behaved themselves, there would never have been a problem.

^ Dude, it's like you are explaining how a buffet works to the kids at a fat camp.

Pedro, Ty Ty and I run sweep. We were the ones getting the bottles/can thrown at us, getting spit on ect. I am SO happy Concord Pond is SS2 this year. FYI: Pedro have been working for NEFR for about 15 years......

That explains the seemingly hard line about people not walking in the road. Kudos to you guys for doing doing so much for so long. I'm totally stoked to finally get the time off from work to volunteer this year!

Got my room reserved and now just waiting to see what I will be doing for volunteering. I got a dorm at Sunday River Sleeps five and so far im the only one so im looking for people to join and split cost . I have the room for 3 nights the 12th 13th and 14th it would be $50 per person if I can fill the room. Let me know if you interested.

someones gotta want to stay all tree night at the rally for only $50 and have a roof over their head and not be in a tent. Any Takers even if you only want to stay one night that's fine we can work out that price when the time comes to it.
