I Haven't been up that way in years, But I can remember route 3 being a fun road to drive and the Castine Rd coming from bucksport going through orland and penobscot being a ton of fun as well. If I get some time I'll try and work on something and get it posted if I can. But everyone feel free to check out the roads on google maps.

I didn't think anyone would suggest rt 3 and that area. I live in Palermo and know some great roads. I'll put together a route later today. Are there any guidelines I should keep in mind? There is a dirt road in the route I'm thinking of and also a fair bit of narrow roads. Do we want to stick to major routes?

Ok hopefully I did this right, But here is a route I put together for a drive from augusta to Castine. Other stops along the way could be like belfast or searsport. I put in the penobscot narrows bridge cause its just kinda cool and the views around there are nice but anyone who wants to make changes to the route feel free.

Here is more of a loop for the Castine drive. When I was in school I enjoyed these roads, many curves. They are Maine backroads at times so they may not be smooth. I have the route stopping at what is known to Castine locals and MMA students as the Backshore. As long as there aren't many people in town yet there should be room for 30+ cars right on the beach. I would advise against going into town unless someone goes ahead to see what parking is like. From there it is across towards Blue Hill and back to route 1. Route 1 back into Bucksport and up 46 to 1A. That will take you back to 95 to get back to Augusta. The whole loop is 4 hours non-stop driving. I would plan on 6 hours including stops. It is only 195 miles so if people fill up in the Augusta area or Belfast then fuel should be no problem.

No objections here, I've never driven that area for pleasure myself so it'd be nice to see something new.

Any idea when this drive is happening?

Is there going to be a spot where everyone's going to meet up before hand? Rangeley's pretty far up? (at least for the Portland area people)

Nigels drive sounds great. have we settled on a date yet? people coming from southern Maine can easily meet in Augusta at say the Civic Center and its a 30 min roll to Farmington up 27. id be in for a few extra miles even to help guide the convoy.
