YES! GOT MY DRIVERS LICENSE!

I still can't decide if I would prefer a Legacy or an Impreza. I like the idea of having an LGT because its more of a "sleeper," but for the exact opposite reason the Imprezas are sportier and flashier (sporty being the main thing).

I bet a Legacy would drive very similarly to an Impreza with sway bars and springs, right?

Congrats man! I've always been an Impreza fan, however both cars, especially the older models are very similar. It all comes down to personal preference I think.

Well what are some advantages of 01-04 Legacies vs. 05-06(or is it 07?) Legacies vs. Bugeyes vs. Blobeyes?

I know the <'00 are available with the 2.2L engine, and I actually saw a neat looking 2.2L Legacy on Craigslist. (searches for link)

Good job on your license! Did you pass on your first try? I didn't....

I didn't parallel park right the first time, I would have hit the curb. Good thing we get two chances

I failed because I didn't look hard enough at a rail road track... But he did compliment me on taking my test in a standard.

:

Yeah, luckily I didn't go past any railroad tracks. At AAA for driver's ed, they warned us that sometimes during road tests they'll take you over multiple tracks, and you're expected to slow at the first one and look back and forth at every track.

I had to go over a triple or quadruple track...

. They're also a member of NASIOC: I could check out some of the history of the car if I wanted.

I really like the looks of this: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/1202757884.html

A 2.2L 1997 Impreza Sedan with WRX suspension and interior. Win/win right? $4800 is a bit much IMO for a GC sedan compared to some of the bugeye prices I've seen, but the updates to it make it worth close to that I guess.

Thoughts?

edit: this route looks slightly more cost effective, but I have no idea how reliable these mitsus are:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/1202757884.html <-the better deal of the two

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/1202381717.html <-probably not in as good condition as above

And then the Legacy route: more expensive but there's leather seats.

Any non-flogged impreza/legacy that has the proper maintenance done will be fine. You need a transportation appliance, not someone's project car.

those cars are all in the wrong state. And if you are going to get something over there, get an old GL or something.

We're going to be driving it back home to Maine. We leave in a few weeks and need a car out there

Why are all the good deals on automatics?

It would almost be worth it to get this one and just swap a 5mt into it. I think I've asked this before, but what is needed other than the tranny and tools for a swap?

because autos suck...

You need clutch, if you tranny is newer than '96 you need the clutch hydraulic stuff, new brake pedal, need to cut a hole for the shifter, need axle, rear diff, clutch + flywheel stuff, tranny mounts, and probably a lot more little stupid things that I can't think of off the top of my head. And probably things nobody would think of until the "Oh crap, I need one of those" moments...

I've heard of folks doing the auto-to-manual swap (a buddy and I are hoping to do one on an auto a4), but they usually get a whole parts car to make sure they have all the clips, bolts, and other random shizz needed. You'd still have to buy some parts new, but the donor car would minimze such purchases.
